Research Analyst - Two-year contract

Research Analyst - Two-year contract

CORE FUNCTIONS

The successful candidate will have training in quantitative analytic methods at the master's level in epidemiology or a quantitative health or social science discipline such as biostatistics. Candidates should have an interest in applied research in the field of work and health. The individuals will work closely with Institute scientists in a multidisciplinary research environment. This position is a two-year contract with possible extension.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • provide programming, analytical, and project coordination support for projects involving administrative and survey data sets
  • responsible for data management, including extracting data from large databases, developing quantitative measures to be used for analysis, and preparing written data documentation specifications
  • conduct statistical analyses, including regression modeling, as required under the supervision of the project lead
  • design and create tables, charts, and graphs for research reports and presentation materials
  • prepare preliminary drafts of research reports, with particular responsibility for documenting research methodology.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A master's degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or other quantitative health or social science disciplines is required and demonstrated proficiency in data management and statistical analysis. Experience working with large administrative data sets and Statistics Canada survey data is critical. Three to five years of experience in database management, data analysis and the specification of statistical applications would be an asset. The candidate must have strong analytic and interpretation skills, with experience in SAS and demonstrated writing skills. Experience with other statistical software packages and programming languages, demonstrated involvement with previous research publications, and an interest in teamwork are definite assets.

SALARY RANGE 

Salary will depend on qualifications and experience: typically a programmer/analyst with master's-level training will be hired at the level of research associate with a salary in the $58,000- $65,000 range plus benefits. Suitability for the position will be assessed at 3 months.
