Institute for Work & Health appoints Dr. Ron Saunders as Senior Scientist

August 25, 2008 (Toronto, ON) The Institute for Work & Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ron Saunders as a Senior Scientist effective November, 2008. Dr. Saunders is currently Vice-President, Research, at Canadian Policy Research Networks (CPRN). He joined CPRN in January, 2003. Previously, Dr. Saunders served as the Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy, Communications, and Labour Management Services Division at the Ontario Ministry of Labour, where he had held a number of policy positions since 1986.

He has a PhD in economics from Harvard University, specializing in industrial organization and international trade. In addition, Dr. Saunders taught for several years at the University of Toronto before joining the Ontario Public Service. More recently he taught at the Queen's University School of Policy Studies.

At the Institute for Work & Health, Dr. Saunders will pursue research interests on the labour markets of Ontario and Canada. His portfolio will have an emphasis on demographic characteristics and employment arrangements that may affect the health of individual workers. In addition, Dr. Saunders’ mandate will include the responsibility of strengthening relations with public institutions, employer representatives and organized labour representatives involved in labour market policy, employment standards policy, occupational health and safety policy, or disability income security policy.
