Predicting the duration of work disability

The goals of this project are:

  • to determine which factors identified early in a compensation claim will predict whether a worker with low-back pain will remain on benefits six months after injury
  • to determine the factors that predict the length of a first claim, who will have a recurrence following an initial claim and how long it will take before the recurrence occurs
  • to create a prediction rule based on these factors and develop a computer-based prediction tool.
