Prescription and recreational drugs that act on the central nervous system can have many adverse effects, including cognitive and psychomotor impairment. An IWH systematic review has looked into the quality of evidence on the link between adverse workplace outcomes and the use of substances such as opioids, benzodiazepines and cannabis. These outcomes included the risks of injury, re-injury, near misses and death, faced by the substance-using workers as well as co-workers and others in the immediate workplace environment. In this presentation, Dr. Nancy Carnide shares findings from that systematic review.
