Research Administrator
The Institute for Work & Health is an independent, not-for-profit research organization. Our mission is to promote, protect and improve the safety and health of working people by conducting actionable research that is valued by employers, workers and policy-makers. Since 1990, we have been providing research results and producing evidence-based products to inform the prevention and management of work-related injury and illness. We also train and mentor the next generation of work and health researchers.
The Institute is currently seeking a qualified person to fill the position of Research Administrator.
About the position
The successful candidate will work with the Scientific Co-Directors and Institute scientists providing administrative and research support.
Principle duties and responsibilities
- Prepare presentation materials for internal and external use, and provide graphic support for work plans, tracking documents and presentation materials, using software such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
- Coordinate the preparation and submission of grants to federal and provincial granting organizations (e.g., CIHR, SSHRC, MLTSD) and other granting organizations. Specific tasks include completing web-based grant applications, preparing CV modules and editing grant proposals.
- Develop and maintain electronic bibliographic library databases, including retrieving and organizing electronic and printed articles and developing project-specific bibliographic reference lists.
- Assist with the preparation, editing and submission of manuscripts, research proposals, surveys, reports, correspondence, memos, and other written text for internal and external distribution.
- Assist scientists in managing the day-to-day activities of their research projects, including but not limited to:
- providing administrative support for a variety of tasks such as scheduling internal and external meetings and conference registration, including booking travel and hotels and submitting expenses reports;
- preparing and distributing meeting materials, and providing support such as photocopying, filing, etc.;
- assisting with data organization and management;
- preparing and coordinating the preparation of various reports required over the reporting cycle; and
- participating in the Research Administrators Team of the Institute for Work & Health.
- Carry out other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission and uphold the organization’s values.
Education and experience
- A college or university degree and five-plus years of related work experience.
- Previous research experience as an administrative/research assistant in a health or work -related discipline. Some research training or experience an asset.
- Sound knowledge of, and experience with, the Windows environment, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Experience with reference software.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills to work with Institute staff and external stakeholders.
- Excellent multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Well-developed ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
Salary range
Salary will depend on qualifications and experience and will be in the range of $52,000 to $58,000.
Suitability for the position will be assessed at six months.
