Dr. Maurits van Tulder

Dr. Maurits van Tulder is professor of health technology assessment and dean of the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Science at Vrije Universiteit (VU) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He was a visiting scientist at the Institute for Work & Health (IWH) in 2002.

From 2007 to 2017, van Tulder was a coordinating editor of Cochrane Back and Neck (formerly known as the Cochrane Back Review Group), housed at IWH. He has chaired or been a committee member for at least five low-back pain clinical guidelines. He is frequently invited to speak at scientific conferences and is a member of the organizing committees of the Low Back Pain Forum for Research in Primary Care and the World Congress of Low Back and Pelvic Pain, the two leading conferences in the field of back pain.

Van Tulder has an MSc in human movement sciences and a PhD in epidemiology. His main research interests are musculoskeletal disorders in primary and occupational care, with a methodological focus on systematic reviews and economic evaluation.
