Dr. Rebecca Gewurtz is an occupational therapist and associate professor in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University.

Gewurtz's research focuses on work disability policy, income insecurity, and employment among people living with mental illness and other episodic disabilities. She uses primarily qualitative methods in her research to examine the experiences of people with disabilities as they seek and retain employment and apply for income-replacement benefits. She has been involved in large partnership projects that include diverse community collaborators, such as employers, non-profit social service organizations and government agencies. She has experience with participatory action research and co-designing solutions to complex workplace problems. Her recent work includes a focus on the unique experiences of people who have experienced homelessness and are transitioning to being housed, as well as retaining people who are living with mental health conditions in the workplace.

Gewurtz earned a master's of science and a PhD in rehabilitation science at the University of Toronto. She also completed a collaborative program through the CHSRF/CIHR Ontario Training Centre in Health Services and Policy Research.
